The students reflect on the session as a whole group, and
each student can choose to stand up, placing themselves on one
of three footprints, starting their reflection sentence with the text written on their chosen footprint. In this session, the footprints text says “I liked...”, “I learned...”, “I will need to try more...”.
Reflection: this is a peak into a reflection activity within Theme 9: Kingdom
of Colour. In the reflection activities in the Art of Learning sessions, the students
work on reflecting on the session that is just about to finish. The reflection exercise
is always the same during one theme, but a challenge is added for each consecutive session. The reflection exercise is always practical, but can be targeted at different levels of reflection. Examples of this are reflections focussing on the senses (what did you hear, smell, see during the session), reflections focussing on the feelings you got during the sessions, abstract reflections ( representing your experience from the session through choosing a shape or a colour and explaining why you chose that shape/ colour), testing out different techniques for remembering, or reacting to different allegations/claims based on the session. Asking open questions and follow-up questions allowing for meta reflection is key in these activities.
