3.1.1 Preparations
Selection of schools: The schools and classes that were selected to participate as intervention and control schools were chosen. The selection of schools was based on an open call directed towards the school authorities in regional Municipalities, as we knew from the pilot that engagement at this level is pivotal together with, dedicated school leaders and teachers. The municipalities and schools that were interested in participating were split into control and intervention groups, taking into account geographical location and school size. We knew the project would require a lot of work and adaptation from the schools, and in Hungary schools previously involved in Creative Partnerships were chosen.
Selection of Artists: The artists who were to be employed in the intervention schools were selected. In Norway, we put a job advert in National art based magazines, and the artists were chosen from applicants applying for the job. Due to Covid restrictions during the hiring process, we did group interviews digitally, then selected a sample for one to one digital interviews. We chose
3 artists this way. The last two artists were selected at a later stage,on the same basis. The Hungarian artists were selected from those with previous experience of Creative Partnerships in Hungarian schools.
Preparing tests: The Yellow/Red test used in this study was already translated into Norwegian for pilot 3, but needed to be translated into Hungarian. This was done in consultation between T-Tudok and CEDETI. The testing procedures were also handed over from the Norwegian research team to T-Tudok. 12 identical tablets were purchased
in Hungary and Norway, to ensure equal testing conditions. BRIEF-questionnaires were also purchased in Hungary.
Preparing the start in schools: Principal, teachers, artists and Art of Learning team negotiated and created space and time in the school time tables for Art of Learning, both AoL sessions and meeting times were set. Materials necessary for starting the Art of Learning were distributed to schools.
