3rd level: The Art of Learning sessions
The Art of Learning sessions are the 3rd level of the Art of Learning content structure. The sessions are constructed in a specific way, built up by three parts: Warm-up, Main activity, Reflection. The time frame for each session is 90 minutes. The time frame is added to from the pilot (from 60 minutes), as more time was needed to make space for transitions, not having to rush, and allocating more time for focus and concentration in main activities. The time frame is flexible, meaning that if students are getting tired, there should be room for a break, or for ending early. In the opposite case, if the students are engaged and intensely devoted to their task, they should have the time to work for the full 90 minutes. This flexibility allows us to respond to the group’s needs each specific day, and therefore, we have not allowed for the schools to install a fixed break within the 90 min time frame, nor cut the time short.
See an example and read a short text reasoning on the warm-up here, the main activity here and the reflection here.
An additional 38 sessions have also been developed to fit potential Covid-19-restrictions in schools and in the advent of home school.
These sessions are also part of the Handbook, but have not been tested, as the schools were never closed during our Art of Learning
implementation period.
In this video, you will see how one session from Theme 10 Shape Explorers look like:
