Cross-disciplinary
collaboration - A final reflection
Art of Learning 2021-2023 has been a project investigating the effect Arts in Education has on the development of Executive Functions of the brain. The project has been a collaboration between three distinctly different disciplines: The Art-field, School and Neuropsychology. In short, we might say that the Art of Learning is standing on three feet: Arts, Education and Neuropsychology. Creating a well-functioning cross-disciplinary collaboration with actors from both education, the arts and neuropsychology has required manoeuvring the different disciplines’ languages, discourses and priorities side by side, on a daily basis. The interdisciplinary focus has been both challenging and rewarding. The interdisciplinary focus has proven to be a challenge in disseminating the project outside our partnership, especially when disseminating
to stakeholders within two or more of the three different disciplines at the same time, which is the case on our own communication platforms, like our website(s). All disciplines need the language to be specific in their own fields,
but this field-specific specialised language makes the dissemination towards other audiences difficult. This challenge has forced us to use straightforward, simple and easy language that is possible to understand across disciplines, which
in turn has made the project language widely accessible, and this challenge has proven to be a positive asset
once overcome.
